“A child seldom needs a good talking to as a good listening to.”

~Robert Brault

“You cannot see someone unless you are willing to listen to them.” ~Andre Freimann

“You cannot truly listen to anyone and do anything else at the same time.” ~ M. Scott Peck

“Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. When we are listened to, it creates us, makes us unfold and expand.” ~Karl A. Menninger

“Listening is one of the loudest forms of kindness.” ~Unknown

Tonight, as I was curating these quotes, I was reminding myself to take time to listen to my daughters.

To not just have conversations around the day’s activities, but include margins in our day. Margins that allow them to talk and be heard without rushing off mid-sentence because we’re going to be late for something.

Listening is a monotask activity.

And when we, as parents, stop and listen, we discover how amazing our kids are and how much they have to offer the world.

It’s humbling and a privilege to provide them with a safe space to explore their thoughts.

Listening says, ‘I love you.’

Listening says, ‘I think you’re important.’

Listening is the loudest form of kindness.

Will you join me in adding margins in your day to allow for spontaneous opportunities to listen to your tween?

For me, that means expanding transition times in my day, so there’s a little less rush and a bit more leisure between activities.

What will it mean for you?
