“Trust is built with consistency.” — Lincoln Chafee

I was looking for quotes about consistency, and this one stopped me in my tracks.

I’m publishing every day for 30 days during this #Ship30for30 challenge to build trust — with you. Because trust is built with consistency.

It’s something I struggle with — I love trying new things. Sometimes that means even when I have a good thing going, I drop it for the excitement of experimenting with a new thing.

Which breaks trust.

Proof of true change takes time and consistent actions.

When my husband and I became parents, one of the first pieces of parenting advice we got was to ‘be consistent.’ Otherwise, the kids wouldn’t know what to expect, and it would be chaos.

Turns out that it was good advice.

Different stages have required us to be consistent with different things. As they’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that it’s not the putting your toys away at a particular time that’s the big deal. Rather, it’s being consistent with how we live out our principles and values.

We consistently value kindness.

It’s the one rule that covers so many situations — no need to memorize a long list of rules. It’s simple — were you kind or not? It’s easier to be consistent when you’re only focused on a few key principles. And it’s easier to build trust.

So, even when I’m excited about a new thing, I’m trying to transition with kindness — and keep their trust.
